In the face of more powerful typhoons and other natural disasters, it’s good to remember that AWS has installed various contingencies to ensure that their services will continue to operate during the worst case scenarios.

AWS Reduces Data Transfer Prices for Japan and Australia

AWS is happy to announce price reductions for data transfer in Asia Pacific (Tokyo) and Asia Pacific (Sydney). This will effectively make data transfers from AWS EC2, Amazon S3, and Amazon CloudFront by up to 34% in Japan and 28% in Australia.

AWS Storage Gateway Launches Hardware Appliance

AWS recently announced that it has launched AWS Storage Gateway as a brand new hardware appliance. This allows you to use Storage Gateway even without a virtual environment, server-class hardware, or IT support staff.

You may now order the appliance from Amazon to be delivered to sites like branch offices, warehouses, and outposts that don’t have necessary IT resources for such storage.

Amazon EC2 Released High Memory Instances Up to 12 TB

Amazon EC2 has announced they have released high memory instances with 6, 9, and 12 TB of RAM. These allow you to use SAP HANA services on a far bigger scale or use it to create production systems that give enterprise-level data protection and business continuity.

Amazon Lightsail Now with Managed Databases

Now, AWS is introducing managed databases to Amazon Lightsail. Each Lightsail database bundle has fixed monthly price. It includes the database instance, the SSD storage, at least a terabyte of data transfer to the Internet and other AWS regions. It also provides automatic backups for point-in-time recovery over 7 days, with the option for manual backups that carry a separate cost.

Amazon RDS Offers Updates to Console and More

Amazon RDS has received new updates to both its look and performance. New features include enhancements to the Amazon RDS Console, RDS Recommendations, Performance Insights, M5 Instances, MySQL 8, and Maria DB 10.3.
